A 'tiny' surprise

I received a 'tiny' surprise at office today. I say tiny because it was a colleague's four year-old daughter who made a surprise visit to our workplace! :) I've met her earlier so I know her name and have shown her a photo of SRK (who she likes) on my softboard. She had even sung a song which she had made up especially for King Khan...talk about young talent!!

Well today, as the kid made her entry, she was greeted with smiles from all corners and when her mom egged her to say hello to Upasana 'aunty', everyone erupted in laughter, one naughty colleague absolutely ecstatic!! Well, I'm over two decades elder to her so I didn't mind at all....what else will a kid that young call you?

The child had not gone to school since she had been running fever for the last few days and was resting today as she was a bit better. But instead of resting at home, she came along with Mum, saying 'aap bhi toh office jaate ho jab aap bimaar hote ho'. You can't argue with children's logic, can you? Anyway, she settled down in a chair next to her mother and patiently followed her instructions not to make noise since everyone was working. I've not seen many disciplined kids really. (I'm told I was a very good child :)) I passed on my bunny (a stuffed toy obviously) to her, thinking she would get bored and she seemed pleased to see it. We went back to work and time and again, we heard a soft voice talking and singing....which we later were told by the Mum that it was the child talking to the bunny, commenting that it had very long ears and could she get some? :)

After lunch, she got a bit fidgety, understandably, and her daddy was asked to take her away. She was all packed, wearing her 'Sylvester' bag, ready to go. But not before she had named my bunny Sanya and the bunny's baby Maria and waved goodbye! Till I see her again...

It's a joy to be with children. One of my most memorable moments involving a kid goes back to class 7. I was on my way to school, in the bus, when a child, not more than three, was helped into the bus by her mother. The child, weeping copiously, obviously didn't want to be separated from the parent. Must have been day1 of nursery! Anyway, the school bus would not have waited forever. The lady managed to put her child in the bus, a student caught her and tried to quieten her. A friend called and I looked away, only to suddenly realise that two tiny arms had grabbed my leg. I bent down to see the crying child, adjusted my position to steady her, wiped her tears and tried to make her sit but she wouldn't budge. I wondered why she had chosen me, but there's no understanding a child's mind. I just remember her holding on to me till we reached school, she had stopped crying....It was one of the best feelings in the world.
