The word Kaminey is making the news nowadays for obvious reasons. For the uninitiated, it's the name of the new Vishal Bharadwaj film, starring my favourite Shahid Kapur. There I go again...ok, enough of Shahid admiration. :) The reason why I suddenly remembered Kaminey goes back a while...a few years actually.
It was a typical day at office. Some of us decided to have ice-cream after lunch. As we rushed back to work, a colleague stopped me and expressed interest in my 'butter-scotch'. The others went ahead and I was chatting with this person when he asked me something and then said sab chale gaye, tumhe chod diya and I suddenly hear myself saying 'kaminey' hain. What happened after that was a laugh riot.
The news had obviously spread... One after the other, I had people coming up to me. They were in shock! Had I really used that word? I turned red, wondering why Mother Earth couldn't swallow me right there and then!! Now let me explain why the hue and cry over such a simple word -- it wasn't meant in a bad way at all. :) I should clarify that I'm not the sort to use such 'unparliamentary' language. I think people must hardly have heard me use a strong word ever!
Honestly, I don't remember what exactly that colleague asked me, what made me say 'kaminey', though everyone else seemed to enjoy it! I just remember being teased mercilessly and getting totally embarrassed.

If only vishal bharadwaj knew in time, he would have changed the script :)

ReplyDeleteHave not seen it yet, but it's got great reviews!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, there you go again. I am pretty sure you were addressing your friend Kamini and someone thought you said Kaminey.
ReplyDeleteOr more likely -- you were just saying the phrase "beCOME ENAbled" in a conversation about tech-savvy office workers and someone just heard it wrong.
Waah.. kya tech-savvy baat kahi tumne. But no, I did say it :)
